To echo the Action Plan for Supporting the Innovation and Development of the Entire Biopharmaceutical Chain released by Bank of China in Shanghai in May 2026, the Bank of China Frankfurt Branch hosted the Life Sciences Parallel Forum. In his opening remarks, Chen Longjian, General Manager of Bank of China Frankfurt Branch, stated that life sciences represent one of the most exemplary fields for implementing ESG principles. Bank of China remains committed to acting as a bridge to actively promote Sino-German cooperation in the fields of life sciences and healthcare. "Supporting the development of ESG-related industries, particularly the life sciences sector, is our responsibility and mission," Chen remarked.
As Chinese and European enterprises build a richer pool of ESG practice cases, participating delegates noted that ESG is no longer merely a compliance requirement; it has transformed into a strategic driver for corporate growth and policy formulation. Experts—including Prof. Dr. Richard P. Baum, a top German nuclear medicine specialist and President of the ICPO Foundation (International Centers for Precision Oncology), and Prof. Dr. Roland Eils, Director of the Center for Digital Health at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Executive Dean of the Institute of Intelligent Medicine at Fudan University—demonstrated through collaborative cases with Chinese partners how they are conducting active frontier explorations and implementing concrete ESG practices within the life sciences domain.

Global New Material International (GNMI), a co-organizer of the sub-forum, is a global leader in surface performance materials. Driven by technological innovation, the company consistently integrates green R&D with smart manufacturing. Zhou Fangchao, Vice President of GNMI, stated: "Looking ahead, we will continue to collaborate with global partners. Through stronger technology and more open cooperation, we aim to connect a sustainable future through material innovation and jointly build a greener, better world."
European corporate representatives, such as Wufei Mingming, Vice President of Allianz Group, joined Chinese delegates—including Zhang Xinyue, COO of United Imaging Healthcare Europe; Feng Yingzhi, Operations Director of GenScript Europe; Zhou Chun, General Manager of Mindray Medical Germany; and Wang Dexiang, Managing Director of TusPark Europe—to deliver keynote speeches and participate in panel discussions focused on sustainable development and financial empowerment in the Sino-European biopharmaceutical sector.
During China's 15th Five-Year Plan period, the country will vigorously advance the "Healthy China" initiative. At the forum, Bank of China Frankfurt Branch announced that it will provide no less than 16 billion euros in comprehensive financial support over the next five years for ESG-related sectors. This funding will focus on key areas across the entire life sciences industry chain—such as drug R&D, medical devices, and healthcare technology—to facilitate two-way cooperation and strategic investments between Chinese and European enterprises.
Attending representatives emphasized that the ESG philosophy is particularly crucial for the life sciences industry, having now permeated every aspect of daily corporate operations. Embracing ESG effectively enhances consumer and investor trust and confidence, driving sustained, healthy corporate growth over the long term.
